ACUPRESSURE CHAIR MASSAGE
Chair massage is a non-invasive therapy, that can be performed through the clothes, can be used anywhere and is very popular within the work place hence the name ‘on site’. It is a 30 minute massage and the client is seated in a specially designed chair. Although this treatment was originally designed for the office it has become increasingly popular in salons, airports, hotels and even on the beach.
The sequence is based on the traditional Chinese massage called ‘Anma’ (which means to push, pull, rub or press). This routine has been designed to take approximately 30 minutes and covers the back, neck, shoulders, head, arms and hands. Any form of bodywork and massage can work effectively to relax, calm and return the body back to a normal balance (Homeostasis). Seated acupressure massage received regularly can be of enormous benefit to clients. This treatment involves massaging the scalp, neck, back, shoulders, arms and hands, the relief of tension is felt almost instantaneously.
MERIDIANS AND ACUPRESSURE POINTS
Meridians are simply Energy super highways of the body, the core principle of traditional Chinese medicine is that health and illness are directly related to the flow of qi (energy) in the body. If qi (pronounced chee) becomes imbalanced in some way disease may result. Energy flows in channels known as ‘meridians’ and traditionally there are 72 channels within 12 major ones used in acupuncture and bodywork.
,Acu-points’ acupressure points or ‘tsubos’ used in shiatsu are recognisable points along meridians that can be accessed and balanced. It takes time and patience to be able to feel them but if you try and tune into meridians on every client you are doing massage on, you will soon start to get a sense of the presence of qi in the body. Traditionally in the East, the Mind, Body and Spirit are interlinked and affect one another on all levels. Emotional problems can manifest on a very physical level and the physical will affect the emotions, aches and pains can leave you feeling grumpy and grief can leave you with a very real aching in the chest area. Having this stimulating treatment will help keep the body in peek condition.
In this treatment it is not possible to cover all of the main acupressure points, but we will work on some important ones.
The 12 major meridians of the body:
• GB – Gall bladder
• KD – kidney
• HT – Heart
• HG – Heart governor
• LU – Lung
• LI – Large intestine
• SI – Small intestine
• TH – Triple heater
• ST – Stomach
